Madre de Água produces wines from the Dão region of central Portugal's Beiras, where granite soils and Atlantic influence shape distinctive red expressions. The winery focuses on indigenous varieties that thrive in this terroir: Jaen, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Nacional. Vinhas Velhas, a blend of Jaen, Rufete, and Tinta Roriz, represents the winery's approach to these grapes, as do single-varietal bottlings of Jaen and Touriga Nacional. The Dão has long been recognized for producing structured, mineral-driven reds with aging potential, and these wines have been assessed by Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast, and Decanter.
