Femente is a free iPhone app that ranks wineries and wines by professional critic scores instead of crowd averages, then helps you plan a wine trip around the ones worth the drive. It covers 1,200 wine regions, 54,000 wineries and 65,000 restaurants.
Most wine apps show you an average of user ratings. Femente shows you the critics. It pulls scores from Decanter, Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and other guides into a single femScore for each producer.
So the wineries that rise to the top are the ones specialists rated highly, not just the ones the most people happened to buy.
Save a winery and it stays in your list. Keep the bottles you have or want in a cellar, so the estates you follow are one tap away rather than lost in a search.
When a producer you saved shows up on a map near where you are travelling, you will know.
Femente is map-first. Pick the wineries you want to see and it plans a route between them, adds a critic-rated table for lunch or dinner along the way, and gives you something to navigate on the day.
It is less a database to browse at home and more a plan for where to actually go.
A wine region is also a place to eat. Femente maps critic-rated restaurants, Michelin-starred and otherwise, next to the wineries, so a day of tasting has a good lunch built into it rather than a scramble at 1pm.
