Weingut Erwin Riske

Weingut Erwin Riske works the steep, slate-rich vineyards of the Ahr valley, a region in western Germany known for refined Pinot Noir. The winery focuses on Spätburgunder—the German name for Pinot Noir—cultivated in sites that demand precision and patience. The Dernauer Hardtberg Spätburgunder Trocken and Bad Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Trocken represent the winery's core expression, both dry wines that reflect the mineral character of their terroir. A third offering, the Schieferturm Spätburgunder Trocken, rounds out the portfolio. These wines have been assessed by Falstaff, the Vienna-based critic. The Ahr's cool climate and volcanic slate soils produce Spätburgunder with structure and acidity rather than overripeness—wines built for food and cellaring rather than immediate consumption.
