Hawkshead produces wines from Central Otago, New Zealand's premier cool-climate region on the South Island. The winery focuses on two varietals suited to the area's demanding terroir: Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The Pinot Noir, a wine of structure and depth characteristic of Central Otago's continental climate, has been assessed by Wine Advocate, Falstaff, and Decanter. The Pinot Gris, lighter and more mineral-driven, rounds out the portfolio. Central Otago's cool nights and intense sun exposure create conditions that push ripeness while preserving acidity—ideal for Pinot's complexity and Pinot Gris's aromatic precision.
