Hawkshead produces wines from Central Otago, New Zealand's premier cool-climate region on the South Island. The winery focuses on two varietals suited to the area's demanding terroir: Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The Pinot Noir, a wine of structure and depth characteristic of Central Otago's continental climate, has been assessed by Wine Advocate, Falstaff, and Decanter. The Pinot Gris, lighter and more mineral-driven, rounds out the portfolio. Central Otago's cool nights and intense sun exposure create conditions that push ripeness while preserving acidity—ideal for Pinot's complexity and Pinot Gris's aromatic precision. Both wines reflect the region's volcanic soils and diurnal temperature swings.
