Lanius-Knab works the steep, slate-rich vineyards of the Mittelrhein, Germany's most dramatic river region. The winery focuses on Riesling—the variety that defines this terrain. Their Oberweseler Oelsberg, a dry expression from one of the region's classified sites, demonstrates the mineral precision and structure that slate-grown Riesling can achieve. The Engehöller Bernstein Spatlese shows the sweeter, more voluptuous side of the grape, while the Riesling Feinherb occupies the middle ground: off-dry, balanced, approachable. All three have drawn attention from major critics including Falstaff, Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Decanter.
