Leitz
Leitz produces Riesling from the Rheingau, Germany's most prestigious white wine region. The winery's focus centers on noble sweet wines—Trockenbeerenauslese, Beerenauslese, and Eiswein—made from grapes harvested in Rüdesheim's classified vineyard sites: Magdalenenkreuz, Kirchenpfad, and Drachenstein. These are wines of extreme concentration, born from botrytized and frozen fruit. The Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Trockenbeerenauslese and Kirchenpfad Beerenauslese have earned the highest marks from Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, Decanter, Falstaff, and Wine Enthusiast. The Drachenstein Eiswein follows closely. Rheingau Riesling at this level—especially in the sweet categories—demands patience and precision in the vineyard and cellar. Leitz's wines reflect both the terroir of the region's steep, slate-rich slopes and the exacting standards required to produce botrytized and ice wines of this caliber.
