Marchesi Alfieri

Alfieri's ten wines are anchored on Barbera d'Asti at three levels: La Tota at the base, Alfiera and Carlo Alfieri at Superiore. Grignolino appears as Sansoero, Nebbiolo as Costa Quaglia under the Terre Alfieri name, and Pinot Nero goes into a Blanc de Noir metodo classico rather than a still red. Four prestige critics cover the estate, and the long-run average of 87 hides a spread of more than fifteen points across vintages. Falstaff and Decanter carry the recent coverage; the low numbers are Wine Spectator's, on mid-1990s bottles.
