Poggio Lucina produces Sangiovese-based wines from Montalcino, in Tuscany's heart. The winery's Brunello di Montalcino—a wine of structure and aging potential built from Sangiovese grown in this storied region—has drawn assessment from Wine Advocate, Decanter, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator, and Falstaff. The Rosso di Montalcino, the younger expression of the same terroir and grape, offers a more immediate expression of Montalcino's characteristic dark fruit and mineral spine. Both wines reflect the discipline of Brunello production: Sangiovese's tannin architecture and the region's volcanic soils shape wines of depth and definition.
