Vincent Careme works with Chenin Blanc in Vouvray, the historic white-wine appellation of Touraine in the Middle Loire Valley. The winery produces three distinct expressions of the variety: a dry Vouvray Sec, a sweet Vouvray Moelleux, and a single-vineyard bottling, Vouvray 'Le Clos'. Chenin Blanc in this region expresses itself across a spectrum of styles, from bone-dry to lusciously sweet, all anchored by the grape's natural acidity and mineral tension. Wine Spectator has rated the Vouvray Sec and Moelleux at 91 points, with 'Le Clos' at 91 points as well. The winery's focus on a single varietal across multiple expressions reflects the classical approach of Vouvray producers, where terroir and harvest timing shape the final character of the wine.
