Volte Face operates in Alentejano, Portugal's expansive southern wine region known for bold reds and mineral whites shaped by a warm continental climate. The winery focuses on two flagship expressions: a Reserva Tinto built from Shiraz and Alicante Bouschet, dark-skinned varieties that thrive in the region's heat, and a Private Selection Branco made from Antão Vaz, a native white grape prized for its structure and salinity. Wine Advocate has assessed both wines. The Reserva Tinto, with its blend of Shiraz's peppery intensity and Alicante Bouschet's depth, represents the darker, richer end of Alentejano's spectrum. The Branco, from a variety long associated with the region's white wine identity, offers the mineral precision characteristic of Antão Vaz. Together, these wines reflect the winery's engagement with Alentejano's terroir—a region where traditional Portuguese varieties meet the demands of a warming climate.
