Weingut Schmitt operates in the Pfalz, Germany's warmest wine region, where continental summers and sandy soils create ideal conditions for ripe, expressive wines. The winery focuses on three core varieties: Spätburgunder, the region's signature Pinot Noir; Grauburgunder, a mineral-driven Pinot Gris; and Riesling Trocken, a dry expression of Germany's most versatile white grape. Falstaff has rated the Spätburgunder at 89 points, the Grauburgunder at 88, and the Riesling Trocken at 87.3, reflecting the precision and balance these wines achieve. The Pfalz's warm climate allows for full phenolic ripeness in red varieties while maintaining the acidity and complexity that define serious German winemaking.
