Cálem produces Port wines from the Duriense region of Northern Portugal, drawing on the steep terraced vineyards that define this UNESCO-listed landscape. The winery works with the region's classic varieties—Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão—blending them into fortified wines of structure and depth. The Porto Rosé marries these grapes into a wine rated 91.5 by prestige critics including Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, and Decanter. The Vintage Port, a traditional expression of the same varietal palette, scores 91.2 across the same panel. The Reserva Cálem Porto Envelhecido em Casco, aged in wood, achieves 91.0. Each reflects the Duriense's schist soils and continental climate, where the river's influence moderates temperature swings and concentrates fruit character in the grapes.
