Royal Tokaji produces wines from Tokaj, Hungary's legendary sweet wine region. The winery focuses on the region's signature styles, crafted from indigenous grapes—primarily Furmint, alongside Yellow Muscat and Hárslevelű. The portfolio centers on Aszú expressions, the region's defining category. Aszú Essencia, made from Furmint, represents the pinnacle of concentration and complexity. Essencia, a blend of Yellow Muscat, Furmint, and Hárslevelű, offers another expression of the region's botrytized fruit character. Aszú 6 puttonyos, also Furmint-based, sits within the traditional Tokaj classification system that measures sweetness and intensity by the number of puttonyos (hods of botrytized grapes) added to the base wine. These wines have been assessed by Decanter, Wine Spectator, and Wine Advocate. Tokaj's volcanic soils and continental climate create conditions for noble rot to develop consistently on the vineyard's susceptible varieties, a natural process that concentrates sugars and flavors into the distinctive sweet wines the region is known for.
