Ladera Sagrada
Ladera Sagrada operates in Valdeorras, Galicia's easternmost wine region, where granite-rich slopes and Atlantic influence shape distinctive white and red wines. The winery focuses on indigenous varieties suited to this terroir: Godello, the region's signature white grape, and Mencia, a dark-skinned variety gaining recognition across northwestern Spain. Castelo do Papa Godello, the winery's flagship white, expresses the mineral precision and structure that Valdeorras terroir imparts to this variety. Its red counterpart, Castelo do Papa Mencia, demonstrates the grape's capacity for depth and complexity in this cool climate. Both wines have been assessed by Wine Advocate, reflecting their standing among serious wine critics. Valdeorras itself remains less internationally prominent than Rioja or Priorat, yet its high-altitude vineyards and schist soils produce wines of genuine character—whites with acidity and tension, reds with elegance rather than extraction.
